We wrapped up the Spring 2026 semester with a wonderful visit and celebration at the Child Development Lab.
We were delighted to welcome Dr. Francesco Margoni from the University of Stavanger to our lab. Francesco introduced his research and gave us an informal tutorial on conducting online violation-of-expectation studies with infants. It was a wonderful opportunity for our lab members to learn more about online infant research and to think together about new methodological possibilities.
After the lab visit, we introduced Francesco to Korean-style four-cut photo booths and took photos together. It was a fun and memorable glimpse into Korean lab life!
We also celebrated the end of the semester with our undergraduate research assistants over a meal. Many thanks to everyone who worked with us throughout the semester. It was a busy and meaningful spring, and we are grateful for all the care, curiosity, and hard work that made it such a good one.
ISSBD 2026 in Incheon, South Korea
The Child Development Lab had a wonderful time at ISSBD 2026, held in Incheon, South Korea.
Dr. Jin chaired two symposia, and our lab presented two talks and two posters. A special highlight was Sunah’s very first conference talk. She did a wonderful job presenting her work on whether infants expect same-language speakers to help one another. We were also especially proud of Seowoo, who gave a wonderful talk while preparing to welcome her baby very soon after the conference.
Jihyun and Joohyang also did a fantastic job presenting their posters and sharing their work with the developmental science community.
It was a joy to celebrate these milestones together as a lab, reconnect with colleagues, and take part in many exciting conversations about developmental science.

BCCCD 2026 in Budapest, Hungary
Dr. Jin attended BCCCD 2026, held in Budapest, Hungary. She gave a talk titled “Infants Expect an Adult to Comfort a Crying Baby Only When the Two Belong to the Same Social Group.” The conference was a wonderful opportunity to share the Child Development Lab’s work with the developmental science community, attend inspiring sessions, and engage in stimulating conversations with colleagues from around the world.
SRCD 2025 in Minneapolis, USA
The Child Development Lab participated in SRCD 2025, held in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Dr. Jin chaired a symposium, and the lab presented one talk and three posters. The presentations included work by Seowoo Kim, Sunah Choi, and Jihyun Jeon.
The projects addressed growth mindset interventions and girls’ motivation, children’s expectations about helping across language groups, toddlers’ false-belief understanding, and children’s reasoning about obligatory and supererogatory helping.
SRCD 2025 was a wonderful opportunity to share our work, receive thoughtful feedback, and connect with developmental scientists from around the world.
SPSP 2025 in, Denver, USA
Dr. Jin presented a poster at the 2025 Annual Convention of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology, held in Denver, Colorado.
The poster, titled “Early Reasoning About Others’ Sharing Behavior: Considering What, How Much, and With Whom,” examined how young children reason about sharing behavior in social contexts.
CDS 2024 in, Pasadena, USA
The Child Development Lab presented three posters at CDS 2024, held in Pasadena, California.
Dr. Jin, Seowoo Kim, and Joohyang Park shared ongoing projects on infants’ social expectations, young children’s understanding of helping, and growth mindset interventions for girls’ motivation.
